Etsy has announced it is closing its wholesale platform on July 31, 2018. This marketplace officially launched in 2014 and originated as a way of connecting Etsy sellers with retailers. A smaller than expected takeup of the service, along with low growth figures were some of the reasons mentioned for the closure.

As at of an announcement about the closure timeline, the company says it will close the wholesale site to new orders on June 28, with the entire site becoming inaccessible come July 31. Shortly after this date, Etsy promises to deliver a data file to each seller with their entire wholesale order history.

If you are a seller now wondering how to continue with your wholesale channels, other marketplaces to consider are Stockabl, Indigo Fair or
Indie Me.

Etsy has also suggested that sellers may consider continuing with wholesale arrangements on the existing retail platform using existing tools in creative ways. The suggestions include sending existing Etsy wholesale buyers special coupons, redeemable for minimum order values; utilising private listings and adding tags and descriptions to listings / about pages to indicate that wholesale arrangements can be accommodated.
